Emotional Excellence: A Practical Guide to Self-Discovery
Published in Paperback by Harper Collins - UK (May, 1999)
Author: Maya Phillips
Average review score:

Metaphore and Magic
This book has changed the way I look at my life. Why, because the author speaks about a fundimental human truth, emotion is a gift that when embraced and used wisely can and does change all your relationships, especially the one you have with yourself, for the better.

Maya Phillips writes with authority, humour and a reassuring style on a number of interpersonal issues. Her Emotional Mapping technique is well illustrated and accompanied by excellent and thorough text. Multi Level Reading was a bit disturbing at first as I could feel and sense changes happening in my body that I had no control over. I have to say that this book delivers much more than it promises. I would have paid ten times the price had I known how remarkable it would turn out to be.

Emotional Communication at its best
Our higher mind and, in many cases, completely ignores the development of the older, the more primeval, earlier mind; which by definition has with humanity for much longer. I believe people are waking up to the fact that we all communicate with each other on an emotional level. Forget about the facades that our conscious adult minds develop to disguise this fact. This book has given me techniques to develop my more emotional self and I am grateful for that.

A unique, inovative way to enhance personal performance
NLP-ers and hypnotherapists hungry for something truly new should take a look at this amazing book to see what the footprints of true innovation look like.

Phillips, has revealed an embarrassing truth about the self-development publishing industry - however good the ideas in any new book, most people simply don't do the exercises.

But, rather than bullying or admonishing the reader, she has taken up the challenge and developed an approach which is truly unique: Multi-Level Reading (MLR) - quite simply, text that brings about the desired change as it's being read.

Robert Masters, creator of Neurospeak, is probably the best known exponent of the relatively recent discovery that the process of reading and understanding certain kinds of text triggers micro-movement of the muscles - the same principle exploited by athletes who use +mental rehearsal+ to improve their fitness or game.

Whereas Neurospeak +speaks+ to the physical body, Phillips has ever greater ambitions - to lead the reader from the present moment into previously unexplored and profound states, creating new neural pathways in the process. Thus, elegantly and effectively, she sidesteps the problem of motivating the reader and accomplishes, unconsciously, the desired result. (A word of caution to the bookstore browser, however: don't read the bold print if you don't plan on speanding the next few hours in a seriously altered state!)

Phillips herself describes Emotional Excellence as a book about "the use and abuse of emotion", and emphasises her mission to guide readers into emotional strength and flexibility. this she does with common sense, humour and flair.

Also outlined is her equally innovative process called Emotional Mapping. I worked with this process and found a powerful therapeutic system for exploring and resolving life issues by identifying, interacting with and testing my "unique and personal inner metaphors and archetypes."

Both processes open entirely new directions in the potential for human self-evolution. Phillips is a breath - no, a tornado! - of fresh air in a field where most new writings are simply regurgitations of what has gone before. And, seldom good regurgitations, at that.

Fictional Teeth (Contemporary Poetry of the American West Series)
Published in Paperback by Ahsahta Pr (04 April, 2001)
Authors: Linda Dyer and Lance Phillips
Average review score:

Seeing more deeply
Linda's work illuminates, sometimes with stark contrasts, her ability to see deeply into life and her amazing talent for letting the rest of us share those insights.
She manages to maintain delicate, beautiful balances between fear and freedom; prescription and time; comedy and life.

Scientific Tenderness
Linda Dyer is a true original --- entirely serious and entirely quirky, scientific and funny and tender. What she sees, she sees closely and clearly, but there is always a heartbreaking tension between the perception and the yearning. Almost anything, it seems, could make its imprint on her like sand on a beach: and if she turns her light on you, you will be seen both accurately and through a large and generous lens. Having the chance to wear Linda Dyer shades by reading her poems is a gift that will wrench and wreak joy out of you altogether.

A lens clarifying Life.
Linda Dyer has a talent for capturing Life's intensity and describing it in all its gorgeous facets. She describes and clarifies moments we have all experienced and does it so unpretentiously, and with such accuracy, that she creates a reality that is more accessible to her readers.

This book is a must, not only for poetry lovers, but for all intelligent students of Life. Bravo, Linda Dyer, and thank you for a job well done.

"Forest Beatniks" and "Urban Thoreaus": Gary Snyder, Jack Kerouac, Lew Welch, and Michael McClure
Published in Hardcover by Peter Lang Publishing (01 February, 2001)
Authors: Rod Phillips, Gary Snyder, Jack Kerouac, Lew Welch, and Michael McClure

The Greening of the Beats
The author sheds light on a side of the beat culture
which has been ignored by the mass media for far too
long. Many a word has been written about the Beat's
frontal attack upon the sleepy surburban world of
America circa late 1950s, but few have bottered to
examine their spiritual awareness as related to Mother
Earth. They were fresh voices who found spiritual
rebirth through nature and were in the forefront of
those questioning the prevalent doctrine of consummerism.
I would heartily recommend this well written book.

Must read
Wow- what a book. This book sheds new light on a topic I feel has already been covered. Phillips' personal interviews are fantastic. I would love to have Phillips for a professor, wait- I do. Phillips is the man, and so is his book. If you are reading this Dr. Phillips can I have a 4.0? You know who I am!

The Beats Reconsidered--Finally
Finally, a scholar has dug through the pop culture mud of the Beats to bedrock below: They weren't just citified tea-heads as Life magazine in the Fifties (and too many academics since) would have us believe. These writers were deeply tuned into the natural world and drew upon it for inspiration and some of their best writing--even the seemingly most urban of the lot--Kerouac. Case and point: Kerouac's "greening" in "Dharma Bums." Phillips' discussion of this novel is especially astute; and it sent me digging for my old copy. Similarly, Phillips' treatment of the Beats and Buddhism (Snyder in particular) is also refreshingly clear and original--not an easy thing to do. Phillips' research, including interviews with McClure, Welch and Snyder, is thorough and convincing. Moreover, his prose is sharp and unencumbered with trendy jargon. I predict Beat scholars will reconsider certain assumptions upon reading this book--and Beat fans will find this to be a unique and excellent addition to the ever-growing Beat canon.

Funds 500
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Business & Investing Distributed Product (07 February, 2000)
Authors: Morningstar Inc and Don Phillips
Average review score:

An outstanding reference tool
This is a great reference tool. I was somewhat disappointed that some smaller funds with outstanding track records were excluded; however, with over 9,000 funds available the authors had to draw the line somewhere.

WONDERFUL!
This book is a wonderful source of mutual fund data. I am just a an average joe who needed some help in the investment world. With this book, I was able to avoid those money grubbing brokers and get business handled on my own terms. I have told all my family and friends about this book and they are just as pleased as I am. I suggest that you let Morningstar do the hard research and number crunching for you, too.

Simply indispensable!
Morningstar is the reason that I have been able to retire early. Much earlier than I ever thought possible. I have recommended their various publications to friends of mine, who have all come up to thank me later on. And the folks at Morningstar are just beautiful people.

The Garden at the Edge of Beyond
Published in Hardcover by Bethany House (September, 1998)
Author: Michael R. Phillips
Average review score:

Flowers and Bushes
I truly enjoyed this book as it unfolds a story that deals with what one would think is the "afterlife". This is centered around a garden that has been maintained throughout the life time of the author. From one flower comes either a scent or a color that represents something that has occurred in life, either good or bad. There are bushes and trees that have been chosen to show how a behavoir, belief, word, act or deed was dealt with while on earth.

The most signficant memory I have is that we have been given everything we need to be successful here on earth. It is how we chose to use each gift that we have which determines our "afterlife". God gave us our "will" and by doing so we have "choices". We need to be conscience everyday of the choices we make. ...because it may bring up a foul smelling flower or discolored bush or tree. Reading this book allowed me to reflect on my "limitations" and see why I must do all I can to do His "will".

Enriching to the soul
I purchased this book because of the beautiful, eye appealing cover. The purchase was made two week after a life threatening heart infection. This book along with that experience has help me realize what is really important in this life. It was used of God to heal old wounds and renew my relationship with Him. Reading this book will be one of the most memorable times in my spiritual walk. It is wonderful. A must to read. njk.

Makes you think twice about the small decisions we make.
This book is very inspirational. It points out that God gave us our 'self' and we must take care of our 'self' because some day we are going to be givng our self back to Him. And every decision we make, even the smallest, most unimportant decision makes up what and who we become and is what we present to God when he calls us home. This book is very well written and easy to read, but really makes the reader stop and think. It is a very powerful, thought provoking book and one that I will be reading over and over again.

Get Set For Y2K
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Specialty Productions, Corp. (16 September, 1998)
Author: James G. Phillips
Average review score:

EXCELLENT!
Our lives were recently touched by natural events in Oklahoma. Last year I heard Jim on the Art Bell show talking about preparedness.

I decided to purchase his book and as a family we started to put into use some of the principles outlined in the book. We did not experienced the trauma of losing a house, relatives or friends. But, we were ready for anything.

His ideas on water storage came very handy and we were able to help out other neighbors.

I recommend this book and tape to anyone interested on the safety of family and friends.

An Empowering 'Wise Stewards Y2K Contingency Plan'
Jim Phillips is a doer, not a talker. He's walked the talk, and has lived the very strategies for over 30 years that he is recommending. Now he's helping us fulfill our Stewardship responsibilities for those under our care.

These principles helped me understand that 'Things' aren't going to save any of us if Y2K materializes, but he's also not in the camp of just wishn' and hopen'. He believes you need a very specific plan, and that anyone can survive wonderfully for 30-90 days minimum without grocery stores, utilities, communications, or shelter if you'll put these principles into practice.

It changed my entire outlook on Y2K, or any emergency, or job loss, or anything that could unexpectedly happen. I highly recommend this book.

Excelent, personal guide to the Y2K phenomenon.
A powerful guide and a no non-sense 'how-to' book, to better understand and deal with the potential disruptions that Y2K may bring. Not a 'dooms' book, but a perfectly laid out principle based manual.

I found the book and the enclosed tapes to be filled with practical knowledge.

I have read many books on the subject and I often find that the 'solutions' given by the authors are not even options for most individuals.

This wonderful book offers real solutions and empowers you to understand your surroundings and yourself.

If you are concern about the posibilities of Y2k, I strongly recomend this little guide.

The Healing Spot: Discovering Your Ability to Heal Yourself

Author: Jan Phillip Holland
Average review score:

Hey grandpa!
I think my grandfather's life has changed tremendously since he discovered this form of healing. Learning more about it is beneficial to anyone that is interested in taking a different path through their life. He does an awesome job at explaining what he knows.

Personal Healing Presentation Well Received
After reading Dr.Holland's book, I invited him to address the Athens Alternative Health Network in Athens, Ohio. He did a three hour presentation based on his personal healing journey. It was so well received that he was invited back to cover all the points he made in his book, "The Healing Spot." He will present a two day seminar in February, 2002 and people are already reserving places. The book is so direct and easy to read. Whether your illness is serious or you want to prevent illness at any level this book is a must to read.

Ultimate Cure for Disease!
If you or anyone you know is suffering from a terminal illness, you must buy this book. Books on healing are usually dry or difficult to understand, but this one is interesting and fun to read. It's a personal account, written by a man who saved his own life and has dedicated himself to helping others save theirs.
I know the author, Jan Holland, and can testify to the fact that he healed himself and has been instrumental in healing others. Jan is a popular speaker at the Baltimore Angels, a group I founded in 1998. At these meetings, Jan revealed the secret to regaining his health. Now you can read about his methods in the comfort of your own home.

The Human Resources Scorecard

Authors: Jack J. Phillips, Ron D. Stone, and Patricia Pulliam Phillips
Average review score:

Hard Measures Are The Cost Of Admission
As a former director or vice president of human resources in three different large companies over 14 years, I can't remember the number of times my bosses and peers challenged me to provide the business case for one hr program or another, either when developing a budget for the coming fiscal year, or defending a budget during hard times. For years, I lost more of those arguments than I won because I didn't always hold myself accountable to the same standards to which other functions were held, nor was I expected to. Over time, my staffs and I got better at measuring the impact of our strategies on various measures of organizational performance, and with that came budgetary "victories" and greater respect as business partners. That's what The Human Resources Scorecard is all about, and by reading and using the wisdom it contains, newcomers to the hr function and late adapters of hr measurement, can enjoy in relatively short order success and respect, which are the "price of admission" to the "executive suite". Having achieved that credibility, we then have the challenge of elevating our conversations with our bosses, peers and clients regarding the intangible dimensions of human and organizational soul, but that's another book in this series.

Excellent !!
Super reference guide. Case studies are well organized and meaningful.

Great For All Audiences
This is a comprehensive guide for evaluating any type of Human Resource Development (HRD) program. Even if you do not have a background in measurement and evaluation, you would be able to pick up this book and begin to understand the important aspects to consider in evaluation and how to plan and conduct an effective evaluation. The case studies in this book are valuable because they go into detail - you feel you have been a part of the program described. The authors are experienced practitioners who have alot to share and they do a terrific job providing the reader with the benefits of their experience.

Jaguar E Type: The Definitive History
Published in Hardcover by Automobile Quarterly (June, 1990)
Authors: Phillip Porter, Maurice D. Hendry, and Philip Porter
Average review score:

The greatest of all works on the magnificent Jaguar E-type.

Rarely does a book's title reflect accurately on its contents, as does Phillip Porter's "Jaguar E-type, The definitive history". One's initial impression is of physical presence, for this is a massive work in all respects. Leafing through the book for the first time, one is immediately struck by a sense of awe that this could possibly represent the work of one man. There can be no doubt this is Porter's legacy, for which he laboured long and hard and gave much of himself.

The foreword is written by sportsman Briggs Cunningham, hinting that the car's racing heritage will figure prominently within. This is indeed the case, for fully a third of the content is dedicated to competition. The greater volume of the book, however, deals with the production car, against an historical timeline that begins with its evolution and conception and extends, rather than ends, with the E-type as it continues to exist today.

It is clear that Porter is unabashedly passionate about this greatest of all sportscars, but he masterfully avoids what could have been a eulogy and creates both a powerful reference work and an entertaining read. "The definitive history" brings together a multitude of colourful personalities and anecdotes and weaves these into a framework of facts, insights and specifications. There are literally hundreds of photographs and illustrations, some of which will be familiar to those who have read other books on the subject but the vast majority of which have never been published before.

History and objectivity are often mutually exclusive and if there can be fault found in this work it would be historian's soft disdain for cars which diverged from the pure lines of the Series 1 two-seaters. This, however, does nothing to detract from what is an otherwise magnificient accomplishment. There will be no other comprehensive histories written about the legendary Jaguar E-type, for none could possibly better this one.

Nick Saltarelli 1968 E-type OTS

Massive tome, excruciatingly detailed.<BR>
Phillip Porter's reference on the Jaguar E-Type that other authors cite as their source. This is a must read if you are at all interested in E-Types. Some of it may not be too flattering to Sir Wm Lyons or Jaguar but it tells the story as only an insider could. You will learn about the inspiration, design, developement, manufacture and end of production of the model

Definitive is the word
A massive effort. One of the most complete references ever to E-Type history. Hundreds of black and white and color illustrations. Insights into design, manufacturing, marketing and service. Production counts, export statistics, model specifications. This is not a repair book. It is a comprehensive history.
